Hiking with Seniors: Structured Joy on the Trail

A curriculum guide from 38 years of community program design. Every outing runs on time, with clear roles and shared effort.

Why Structure Matters

Like Mozart's sonatas, a good hike has rhythm: preparation, ascent, reflection, return. My seniors hum along the trails near our center, herb bundles in packs.

Group of senior adults hiking through a lush forest in Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy, during summer.

Sample Workshop Schedule

8:00 AM — Bridge & Prep

Roles assigned: navigator, botanist, storyteller. No one leaves without the written plan.

9:30 AM — Ascent on Torrey Pines

Stop at switchbacks for literature: Wordsworth on nature's lessons.

12:00 PM — Herb-Infused Meal

Basil from my garden, shared stories from the trail.

Next Session Plan

Always leave with the next date, roles, and a single clear goal. Contact me at the senior center to join.
